All GPS Tracking devices work the same way. In order to generate an update location report, the device must be able to pick up a tracking signal from at least 4 of the GPS satellites orbiting the earth. The satellite signal penetrates reasonably well through most materials with one important exception, metal. If the unit is not generating location updates, try moving the device and/or the antenna to a new location.
